White Hat vs Black Hat SEO

Have you heard the terms ‘black hat SEO’ and ‘white hat SEO’ before? Let’s look at the differences between the two and which of the two methods will yield the best results for your SEO campaign.

Simply put, black hat SEO strategies are ‘quick fix’ methods, which may, or may not help you achieve page one ranking fast, but will most likely result in your website being penalised by Google soon after, making it even more difficult to pick up the pieces and rebuild up your page ranking.

Black hat SEO methods most commonly involve keyword stuffing, duplicate content, low quality link building and cloaking methods which ‘trick’ the web crawlers into believing your website contains high quality, relevant content for the keywords being targeted.

While white hat SEO may, on the surface, appear to use similar methods such as keyword incorporation and link building, dive a little deeper and you’ll uncover stark differences. For example, white hat link building relies on genuine links in the form of partnerships, honest testimonials and guest posts. Unique content creation is king over content copied from a high ranking site, and keywords are peppered into website content rather than stuffed into every sentence.

So, in summary, while black hat SEO methods may appear beneficial on the surface, white hat SEO ensures you’re in it for the long haul and will allow you to reap the benefits of your hard work and persistence long into the future.
